Vintage, Elegant & Thrifty Valentines Day Decor (2024)

Our new marketplace makeover project dining room hutch is decked out with some vintage elegant thrifted and dollar store Valentines Day home decor finds.

The last few weeks I’ve tackled a few DIYs, both big and small, and probably the biggest was the makeover of a FB marketplace hutch that now lives in our beautiful dining room alcove. I’d been watching for the ‘right’ piece for a long time and really loved the curved lines of the top of the cabinet. After a couple of coats of Fusion Mineral paint (in a custom mix of two of their colors) it has a new life and is the perfect piece for adding some seasonal decor touches like these vintage, elegant and super thrifty ones I’ve added to it for Valentines Day this year.

Now that February has officially arrived the time is ripe for a few subtle Valentines Day decor touches. Do you decorate for Valentines Day? I don’t go over the top, but I’m always ready for a few pops of pink come February; I think it reminds me that Spring is just around the corner!

Some of my friends are sharing their dreamy Valentines Day decor ideas with us today as well. Be sure to check out their articles by visiting the links further down in the post.

Last week I shared a simple DIY wood bead garland made with dollar store wooden hearts. I made another little seasonal garland with some dollar store grapevine hearts to adorn our new hutch. I also brought in some dollar store and thrift store projects to style the hutch for V-Day. The decorative objects are non-themed as far as Valentines Day decor goes, but I think they give a nice little nod to the quickly approaching holiday of love.

Pretty much everything in this stylish cabinet was from the thrift store, the dollar store, or was found on clearance.

One of my favourite parts of this display is the little mini-cloches filled with tiny pots and flowers. Aren’t they adorable?

The clay pots are from the dollar store, as is the tiny concrete Valentines Day heart. I picked up two stems of hydrangea at Walmart and divided it into smaller sections to fill the pots. The larger cloche is one I have had for several years.

The brass candlesticks, below, are from the Sally Ann, and the pot is a thrift store find that I painted with Fusion Mineral paint in Casem*nt.

All I did to give the tiny cloches a quick upgrade was paint the bases with some flat dark grey craft paint…

The little rustic and charming grapevine heart garland was another DIY. All I did was cut pieces of twine and hot glue them to the back of the grapevines hearts that I found at my local Dollar Tree.

I shopped the house for the items on the top shelf and love how the warm tones of terra cotta and pink work together to add a springy fresh feel to this vintage piece.

The art print is a free printable that I downloaded from Open Source. You can read my article here about how to find and access free printable vintage art. This one is also in my printable library drive, which all of my email subscribers have access to.

I think the bit of sparkle in the candlesticks and big bowl on the bottom shelf add a touch of elegance to the overall display. The big greenery balls are a Dollarama find from a few years back.

I love the arched curves and the dental moulding of this hutch. It still needs a few finishing touches, but I look seeing it in it’s new home.

The white vases displayed behind the glass doors are another recent DIY project. I love the soft white textured vases that I’m seeing all over the web, but not loving the high prices. I made my own with some thrift store vases, Fusion Mineral Paint, and texture powder. I’ll be sharing a tutorial later this week about how I did it!

The texture on them turned out SO well! Even better than my baking powder vases that I did in the fall.
